Charlie’s Short Course in Evangelism, 8/29 in Enola, Pennsylva

Charlie Liebert, Christian Apologist, and Teacher will be leading a workshop in Enola, Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening, 8/29, 6:30 – 8:00 PM at Enola Church of God, 9 Sherwood Drive.  The workshop’spurpose is to equip Christians to Dialogue with non-Christians about the gospel.  All the material taught in this course is in the newly published booklet: “Charlie’s Short Course in Evangelism.”

Part 1 lays the Biblical foundations for dialogue with non-Christians including Jesus’ great commission, and Jesus’approach to challenges, presuppositional apologetics and the biblical principle of the state of humankind, being dead in sin.  The raising of Lazarus illustrates the sequence of salvation.

In Part 2  we determine an unbeliever’s spiritual temperature, that is how receptive they are to hearing the Gospel. I’ll also offer an approach to sharing the Gospel.

Are they cold? They don’t have any real interest in the Gospel, andeven a satisfactory answer to their questions would NOT change their relationship to Christ.

Are they lukewarm? If they are lukewarm, you conclude they are interested in Christianity but don’t appear ready to believe.

Are they hot? You’ve taken their temperature, and they are ready to respond to the Gospel. For example, they may say, “This is the one problemkeeps me from believing in Christ” or “If I had real answers I could believe, I’d consider becoming a Christian.”

Knowing their temperature, you then share your testimony and, if applicable, go to Closure to lead them into a relationship with Jesus.

The third part of the workshop will be learning and rehearsing a series of dialogues to speak with various groups including Atheists, & Humanists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Mormons, (LDS)

Part 4.  One of the most common views in our culture is Materialism, andI’ll share some tools to dialogue with one of them. As a worldview, it’s often called metaphysical naturalism, which is the philosophy that nature is all that exists throughout space and time. The natural world, the universe, the cosmos, consists only of natural elements, matter, and energy— nothing else. The supernatural does not exist; just nature is real. Believers of this philosophy are forced to consider atheistic evolution as the onlyway to answer the question “Where did we come from?”

Three tools to expose Materialism’s fallacyare 1) Immaterial Opposites, 2) Historical Narratives and Absolute Scientific Laws.

The booklet prepared to teach this workshop is Charlie’s Short Course in Evangelism.  Which contains four sections and three appendices 1) Charlie Liebert’s Biography 2) Charlie Liebert’s Testimony 3) Using Mortality as an Evangelistic Tool.

The material for this workshop are from two of my books: 1) Always Be Ready to Give an Answer! 2) 12 Lesson Study Guide for Always Be Ready to Give an Answer!

This short course booklet is now available as “Charlie’s Short Course in Evangelism.”

My NEW Book: “My Christian Children’s Education, What Should I Do?” A Christian Educator’s Analysis and Advice

TODAY, I’m announcing my latest book “My Christian Children’s Education, What Should I Do?” available on Amazon as a Kindle download at $3.99 or a paperback at $9.99 + shipping.  As a Christian educator I’ve presented analysis and advice to help Christian parents make the best decisions to educate their children. This difficult decision has eternal consequences so, consider ALL the factors.  This book is an excellent resource to make that decision.

One of the most serious problems Christian parents face in the US today is the potential loss of their children’s faith when they leave home to go to work or attend college.  I’ve had many parents call me: “My son/daughter just came back from a semester or a year away and told me: ‘Mom, Dad I don’t believe in that Jesus stuff anymore.'”  For parents, this is heart-rending.  The first question parents ask me is: “Why?”  Ken Ham and many others have written extensively on this topic, and the answer that comes up most is that the student did not have a firm foundation in WHYthey believed what they believed.  Their education spent little or no time on Christian Apologetics. As early as the 1970s Francis Schaefer saw this problem of the lack of apologetic education for youth.

A Christian parent’s primary responsibility to their children is to educate them in God’s Word. My purpose is to help Christian parents understand the state of education in the US today and help them make the right education choices for their children.  I’ll show the Biblical Mandate to educate your children and give an organized method to implement it.  You know your own family situation so you must choose which option is best for your children’s education.

I have taught at a Community College for more almost 15 years, and I’ve seen many public high school graduates come to start college that:

can only read at a fourth-grade level,

can’t do simple math with things like fractions or percentages,

don’t know how to express themselves in writing,

don’t know how to express themselves in speech,

have a sixth-grade vocabulary,

AND have little to NO critical thinking skills.

When given a 1000-word essay assignment one student told me: “I’ve NEVER written an essay so, how do I start?” If that’s not enough of public school failure, they almost never have the ability to plan work or manage their time.  Many are overwhelmed by the work assignments from the first day of class.  Many spend one or two semesters taking remedial work in writing, reading and math BEFORE they begin curriculum studies.

US Education’s Greatest Failure, EVOLUTION! After more than 50 years of monopoly in public education, Evolution is only believed by half the US population.

Evolutionists express great frustration and distress in the persistent results of polling about whether the US public believes in Creation or Evolution as the origin of humankind. Poll after poll, after poll, after poll all say the same thing. About half the US population believes in Evolution in all its different forms, and the other half believes in Creation in all of its forms. Although evolutionists have had a monopoly in education for more than 55 years and have pounded Evolution into students all that time the numbers, haven’t changed much since they started. In some recent polls, the results of this question have even gotten worse for Evolution. For example, in two 2014 Gallup polls the results were;

Poll 1: “Do you believe in ape to man evolution?” 34% believed in God assisted (Theistic) Evolution, 16% believed in Atheistic Evolution, 43% in some form of Creation and 7% have no opinion. So, 50% believed in Evolution, 43% in Creation and 7% didn’t care, OR to say it another way 77% believed God played some role in our existence and only 16% believed He did not! Atheistic Evolutionary educators have taught five generations of students, attending public schools, that God did not play a role in their creation, and only 16% believed them! By any standard that’s a very poor result.

Poll 2, in May 2014: “Do you think the Theory of Evolution is consistent or inconsistent with your religious beliefs?” Consistent 46%, Inconsistent 46%, No Opinion 7%. Half and half again!

Since, shortly after the end of World War II, the US public schools taught Evolution as the ONLY way to explain humankind’s origin. In 1959 the 100th anniversary of Darwin’s publication of “Origin of the Species” was celebrated when Evolution education was declared essential for the US to be successful in scientific achievement. After more than 55 years of intensive educational effort to promote Evolution half, the US population remains unconvinced its true. Can we conclude that convincing students Evolution is true is not just a matter of education? Yes, we can! Changing one’s view of the question of, where we came from, is one of the most profound questions we ask.  Education doesn’t easily change a person’s worldview and presuppositions.  It’s NOT simply knowledge that you are trying to change; it’s their faith in who they are, and people do NOT change that easily. Humanistic Evolution educators, wake up, your attempts to educate the US population out of their faith has been an utter failure.

After more than 55 years of a near monopoly in public education indoctrinating students into Evolution, why have they been so unsuccessful convincing students they came from apes? The reason is obvious! Evolution is illogical and easily recognized as false. Education can’t overcome something that is obviously not true. People just won’t believe it even when it’s the only thing taught.

Atheists, Agnostics & Materialists have FAITH because they believe History.

You’ve heard Your Atheist, Humanist or Materialist relative or friend say: “I only believe in what I can see. Faith is for fools! The only reality is the material world. There is no supernatural! Everything is relative! There are no absolutes!”

Our world is full of people that deny the supernatural. They make explicit statements about the world and act as if they were questions because they are looking for a response from us. These statements are easy to answer and often provide an opportunity to present the gospel. Materialist declarations challenge Christians to spar verbally. Don’t shy away from them; they will give you a chance to share the Gospel.

In the United States today there are many people, even in churches, who believe these materialistic imperatives from Atheism, Agnosticism, Humanism, Materialism, and Marginal Christianity.   All of these worldviews are described in “Worldviews and Religions” from the book Always Be Ready to Give an Answer!

Last week we explored immaterial opposites like hot-cold, wind, and light-darkness to demonstrate that people who claim they only believe in the material world believe in many things that can’t be sensed. Today we’ll look at the second of these non-material arguments, the Historical Narrative dialogue. Our whole understanding of history is based on others writings and experiences and not on our knowledge. WE believe in history by faith in the ones who communicated it to us.

Historical Narratives

I: “I only believe in what I can see. My five senses tell me all I need to and can know. There is no supernatural; only the material world exists. Faith in something you can’t see is foolish.”

Me: “Do you believe George Washington was a real person? Did you ever see him? You only have the testimony of books written by other men.”

I: “Of course.”

Me: “Do you believe there was a Roman Empire? Do you believe two world wars occurred in the twentieth century?” (You can use as many examples as you can think of, just don’t use any events that happened during the person’s lifetime.)

I: “These things are historical events I know happened.”

Me: “You only know about past events that you didn’t witness through the testimony of others. So, you trust in something you did not see. Do you concede you believe history through the testimony of others?

I: (Affirms.)

Me: Then let me tell you some history. The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the most documented events of all time. If the stories about Jesus were not true, we would know because men and women don’t sacrifice their lives for a lie. Besides the testimony of history, we have two-thousand-plus years of history to affirm Jesus’ saving power.” (Give a short testimony.) “What about you? Do you believe Jesus lived, died, and rose from the dead to bring you salvation?”

Atheism, Humanism & Materialism are Foolish, Everyone Believes in Things Beyond Their 5 Senses!!

These next four weekly blogs I’m going to take the gloves off to deal with those that deny the supernatural and hold that the material world is all of reality. The material in this blog is from the first chapter in my book ANSWERS For “The Hope That Is In You.”

You’ve heard Your Atheist, Humanist or Materialist relative or friend say:

“I only believe in what I can see. Faith is for fools! The only reality is the material world. There is no supernatural! Everything is relative! There are no absolutes!”

Our world is full of people that deny the supernatural. They make explicit statements about the world and act as if they were questions because they are looking for a response from the hearer. These statements are easy to answer and often provide an opportunity to present the gospel. These kinds of materialist declarations challenge Christians to spar verbally. Don’t shy away from these statements; they give you an opportunity to share the Gospel.

In the United States today there are many people, even in church, who believe these imperatives of Atheism, Agnosticism, Humanism, Materialism, and Marginal Christianity.   I describe all of these worldviews in “Worldviews and Religions” from the book Always Be Ready to Give an Answer!

There are three separate arguments to counter these beliefs: 1) immaterial opposites, 2) historical narratives and 3) absolute scientific laws. I’ll cover all three in the next weeks, showing these unbelievers how many things they believe on faith.

After I’ve presented these arguments I’ll say: “You’ve conceded 1) you believe in things you can’t sense, 2) you accept the testimony of others about events you did not experience, and 3) the universe contains absolutes that are always true. You view of reality has been falsified. What you believe about the world isn’t true! You have a worldview that is inconsistent, illogical, and false. You need to find actual answers to your view of reality. My Christian worldview is real, demonstrable, and absolute and contains good news and bad news. First, the bad news: There is a God, who created all things, sustains all things and brings justice to all things. That sentence upon all humankind includes your death and condemnation. You cannot escape death! ALL men DIE! You are lost and without hope when you stand before the justice of God! Now the good news: God has provided a way to satisfy his justice, not by anything you can do, but by believing that Jesus paid the debt you could not pay by dying in your place. Reconciliation to God happens when you put your trust in Jesus.”

Next week we’ll look in depth at the first of these arguments, Immaterial Opposites.

Some critics of these arguments will say: “Don’t call us fools!” My answer is I am only repeating God’s assessment of your worldview. Psalm 14:1 “The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt; they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good.”

A Christian parent’s response to US Public Education’s Humanist foundations.

In the early part of the 20th century, the foundation of teaching was “Judeo/Christian Values.” These values undergirding most subjects, particularly history, social studies and science, all were based on Biblical principles. The system NOT was specifically Christian, but teaching was based on Biblical presuppositions and worldview. For example, when morality was addressed in any subject area the Ten Commandments was the foundation cited and was often posted in classrooms. Education began to change in the 1920s with the adoption of John Dewey’s Humanist principles. By the 1950s Humanist principles dominated. Prayer was banned from public schools in 1964. By 1970 the Humanist philosophy was firmly entrenched, and Christian beliefs were being driven out. By the 1980s all residue of Biblical teaching was not only removed from the schools but was banned under the banner of “separation of church and state.” Between the period preceding World War 2 (1940) and the early 1980s, education’s foundations changed from values based on absolute standards from the Bible to a relativistic morality system based on the Humanism and the Humanist Manifesto. These two worldviews are always at opposite positions on every aspect of our lives and the world. The chart enclosed with this blog is a summary of the contrast between them.

Humanism is a system of doctrine that appears religious; however, humanists deny this and call their system secular humanism to remove the stigma of it being a religious system. Calling Humanism non-religious is a smoke screen because the “Humanist Manifesto” contains multiple religious statements. In several cases before the US Supreme Court Humanism has been defined as a religion. Here’s a summary.

Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism and other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.

They have several creedal statements, the latest of which is “Humanist Manifesto 3,” (2003), however “Humanist Manifesto 2” (1973) is much more comprehensive.

Christians who send their children to public schools need to recognize that Humanist presuppositions are the foundation of all subjects their children are taught. In my blog of 3/10/2017, we saw this even in language and math! Christian parents putting their kids in US public schools must carefully monitor their children’s knowledge and values. The church loses many students from Christian homes because of this Humanist foundation in education. Parents have to work hard to counter Humanist teaching. When children, who are brought up in Christian homes, go to college or just out on their own, they often “lose” their faith. I’ve counseled many parents whose child has returned from the first year of college to declare, “I don’t believe all that stuff about Jesus anymore!”  Many college professors work hard to destroy Christian students’ faith so they MUST be prepared BEFORE they graduate high school. Ken Ham has written several books, which I recommend, about losing these students.  Already Gone, Already Compromised and Ready to Return all by Ken Ham https://answersingenesis.org/store/product/ready-reformation-set/?sku=40-1-464

Humanists, Evolution, and Open-mindedness. My Dialogue!

Humanism, the religion of US Public education, is a system of doctrine that appears religious. Humanists, however, deny this by calling their system “Secular Humanism” to remove the stigma of a religious system. Calling Humanism non-religious is a smoke screen because the “Humanist Manifesto” contains many religious statements.

Much like other religions, Humanists often meet weekly and have leaders they call Counselors, instead of Pastors or Elders. There are also congregations of Unitarian/Universalists and even some liberal Christian churches that would identify themselves as a humanist in philosophy. The latest creedal statements are “Humanist Manifesto III,” (2003); however, the earlier “Humanist Manifesto II” (1973) is much more comprehensive. Some particular statements in the “Humanist Manifesto III” important for Christians be aware of are:

Atheistic: “No deity will save us; we must save ourselves.”

Evolution only: “Rather, science affirms that the human species is an emergence from natural evolutionary forces.”

These doctrines made for an interesting dialogue I had with a Humanist Counselor:

Christian (me): “We are on opposite sides of the question of whether there is a God. I believe there is, and you don’t. On the question of origins, you affirm the only possibility is Atheistic Evolution.”

Humanist: “That is correct.”

C: “As a Christian, I believe in a six-day literal creation. There are, however, other Christians who believe in an old earth and some who even believe in theistic evolution. I would say they are wrong in their theology, but I won’t declare they’re not Christians. The only model of the past that Christians exclude from their possibilities is Atheistic Evolution because we believe there is a God.

H: “So what’s your point?”

C: “Christians have at least three different ways to explain the origin of life on earth: Young Earth Creation, Old Earth Creation, and God Assisted Theistic Evolution. You are limited to only one: Atheistic Evolution. That makes Christians much more open-minded than atheists. We have three; you have only one! Are we three times more open-minded than you are?”

At this point, some Humanists explode in anger because they reckon us narrow-minded and themselves broad, free, and open-minded. You have just shown them how narrow they are, and they won’t like it. Next week: “How removing absolutes from education is fatal to learning.”
