God’s Judgment in Noah’s Flood.

In the next several weeks we’ll be focusing on Noah’s Flood described in Genesis. Recently some Christian leaders are promoting the view that Noah’s Flood was a “local flood” in the Mesopotamian region of the Middle East. The Scripture is clear; Noah’s Flood was worldwide to fulfill God’s intention was to destroy all land-dwelling, air-breathing living creatures outside the Ark. Genesis 6:7-8. So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man, and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I’m sorry that I have made them.”  But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

The actual results of His judgment are recorded in Genesis 7:11-23 In the six-hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights. 13 On the very same day Noah and his sons, Shem and Ham and Japheth, and Noah’s wife and the three wives of his sons with them entered the ark, 14 they and every beast, according to its kind, and all the livestock according to their kinds, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, according to its kind, and every bird, according to its kind, every winged creature. 15 They went into the ark with Noah, two and two of all flesh in which there was the breath of life. 16 And those that entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded him. And the Lord shut him in.

17 The flood continued forty days on the earth. The waters increased and bore up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. 18 The waters prevailed and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the face of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed so mightily on the earth that all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. 20 The waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits deep. 21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all humankind. 22 Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. 23 He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark.”

Note how many times the word “all” is in this passage. There would be no reason to spend the significant effort to build the Ark if Noah could have fled to another region to escape the flood. The flood must be worldwide because God’s judgment on the Earth was complete. Anything less than worldwide would be incomplete and make God a liar. Also, God’s promise to never judge the world by water again would have been broken many times in local floods like Katrina, in New Orleans. Next week I’ll be on vacation. I’ll pick up on 7/28 with Noah’s Flood timeline.

Worldviews and the Uniqueness of Christianity PART 2.

This BLOG is from Chapter 4 “The Uniqueness of Christianity” of:Always Be Ready to Give an Answer!” Last week we saw the three different views of Mankind’s position in this world: 1) God’s not relevant, and death is final. 2) Non-Christian religions escape death by human efforts, and 3) Christianity, God rescues man from death. All three worldviews answer the same question: “What happens to us when we die?” Christianity differs from all other worldviews and religions in a stark way that all humanity is helpless and hopeless in defeating death. All are condemned to Hell by both their nature and action.

The History.

God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden with the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil to test their love and obedience. By not eating from the tree, they could continually demonstrate love for God as an act of their will. They had the choice to not love by disobedience, so they had true free will. God warned them that eating from the tree would have the consequence of death. When Adam ate from the tree, he brought the curse of sin and death to all of the creation. Adam’s spirit died immediately. His body entered the process of dying, but it would be some time before he would physically die. It’s as if God said: “You will begin to die (spiritual death), you will continue to die (aging), and eventually, you will be dead (physical death).

The Dilemma.

The entrance of sin meant all children of Adam and Eve are guilty of this rebellion by both birth and personal practice. We are born sinners, and we sin by intent daily. All mankind is dead in their spirit and will not seek a relationship with God, hating God by nature and practice (Read Romans 1–3). The situation is entirely hopeless. All are destined to Hell, and no one can do nothing to stop their death. If this were the end of the story, Christianity would be the most hopeless religion because there would be no way to escape death. We are all lost, condemned and hopeless, so God alone can provide a solution.

The Good News.

Now, the good news of the gospel! God himself came to earth as Jesus, the perfect man, also called the second Adam. He was not born by the natural process but rather miraculously conceived in the virgin’s womb. As a result is not a son of Adam, and does not inherit the sin nature. His spirit is alive. Jesus lived a perfect life obeying all God’s law and then sacrificed himself to pay the sin debt of some of mankind. Since people will not seek God because they are dead, God himself has to awaken them, to hear the call to receive the payment of their debt made by Jesus. It’s called substitutionary atonement. One life traded for another to satisfy justice. Lazarus in the grave is a great example! See my earlier blog: http://wp.me/p6OUE6-1y

LESSON: Christianity is unique in world religions because it alone teaches man is dead and will not seek God. God alone can provide escape from death and only through Jesus Christ

Christianity’s Uniqueness Among Other Religions, and Worldviews PART 1.

This BLOG is adapted from Chapter 4 “The Uniqueness of Christianity” in my bookAlways Be Ready to Give an Answer!” In spite of all of these worldviews and religions there are only three different views of Mankind’s position in this world and his possible rescue from death: 1) God’s not relevant and death is final. 2) Non-Christian religions escape death by human efforts, and 3) Christianity, God rescues man from death. All must answer the same question: “What happens to us when we die?”

God’s not relevant and death is final. Atheism, agnosticism, humanism, and materialism take the position that God may or may not exist but, if he does, he is not relevant to human behavior. They all believe mankind will evolve to a better state without aid from a deity. Evolution from microbes to man is the foundation of these views. Their answer to “What happens when we die?” is simply: “We are extinguished and no longer exist. There is no afterlife.” Atheists, agnostics, and humanists that understand this fully may take their own lives as they age because of the trials of aging and the hopelessness of this view. They ask, “What’s the point of suffering the painful aging process?” This view is bad news only! There is no good news here, only extinction and nothingness! There is no purpose or meaning to life in these views! As Christians we can see the hopelessness of this view clearly because we have the “good news” of the gospel.

Non-Christian religions escape death by human efforts. In all world religions Including cults like Mormons or Jehovah’s Witnesses some form of human effort, with or without divine intervention, is required to achieve reconciliation with God. It is some kinds of good works or keeping ritual practices by human effort that provides redemption to escape death. Most world religions recognize the fundamental flaw in mankind (sin) and find a way to deal with it to escape death. BUT we all know no one escapes the Grim Reaper. They rid their adherents of this curse by some form of religious rules, rituals, practices, etc. Man is able to rescue himself from death. In some religions, it may require the help of a deity, but human effort of some kind is the key. In Hinduism, for example, you go round and round in reincarnation until you achieve Nirvana. In Islam, die a martyr and you get to heaven and get 72 virgins. In Judaism, one lives as close as they can to God’s law and you might get into heaven if you’re good enough. Christianity holds a very different view. You are condemned and cannot do anything to escape the consequence of dying. Next week we’ll explore the uniqueness of Christianity.

Conclusion: Non-Christians hold two views on God and redemption.   Either God is not relevant OR reconciliation with him can be achieved by some human effort. Christianity is VERY different! Man is incapable of doing anything to escape death, God must rescue man.

US Public Education’s Foundations, Christianity vs. Humanism

In a recent blog, I dealt with the two foundations of US Public Education, Christian Values, and Humanism. A comment posted by a reader asked: “What’s wrong with Humanism?” What’s wrong, Humanism’s tenets and foundations conflict with my Christian world in every area: History, Science, Literature and even Language, which I’ll deal with next week. As a Christian I want my children’s education to reflect my values, which begins with a foundation of a worldview and a set of presuppositions about the world where we live. Until in the early part of the 20th century, the US public education’s foundation was the Bible and Christian principles. It began to change in the middle of the 20th century, based on the influence of John Dewey and others. By the end of the 1980s US, education was based entirely on the principles of Humanism. Christianity was purged from the schools under the guise of “separation of church and state.” These two worldviews are at opposite positions on every aspect of our lives, only one can be education’s foundation. They are truly mutually exclusive. Education’s foundation must be based on either one of these value sets, but since it can be ONLY one, the other must be entirely excluded.

Here is a summary, created by this author, of their differences.

CATEGORY HUMANISM CHRISTIANITY
Universe Origin Order from Nothing + Chaos Created by God in 6 Days
Human Origin Chemical / Biological Accident Made in God’s Image
Origin of Life Dead Chemicals / Abiogenesis Created Kinds by God
Meaning of Life Human Experience In God, Who is life
Historical Flow Unpredictable, Random Events God’s Purpose / His Story
Improved World Reason / Intelligence Christian Conversion & Life
Happiness is? Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs New Creation / Alive in Christ
Fulfillment is? On Earth Only / Death Ends ALL Heaven / Eternal Life with Him
Moral Basis Relativism / Do What YOU Want? God’s Word as Guide
Salvation None or By Some Human Effort God’s Grace Alone by Faith
Lifestyle Pleasure, Hedonism, Live for Today! In Christ, Be a Living Sacrifice

One more challenge: “In the history of the Christian church, many rulers, philosophers, kings, etc. have tried to destroy Christianity. They have even, at times, declared it dead. Why, after many centuries, haven’t they succeeded?”

In 1776, Voltaire, the French philosopher, announced, “One hundred years from my day there will not be a Bible in the earth except that is looked upon by some antique seeker.” One hundred years later, Voltaire was dead, and the Geneva Bible Society was using his house and press to print and store Bibles. One hundred years from the day of Voltaire’s prediction, the first edition of his works sold for eleven cents in Paris, but the British government paid the Czar of Russia half a million dollars for an ancient Bible manuscript. —Source: http://gewatkins.net/my-words-shall-notpass- away/ February 15, 2014, 7:00 p.m.

Creation’s Young Earth and an “Old Looking” Universe

There are at least three explanations that Creationists have used to explain how this Universe that looks millions or billions of years old can be only 6,000 years young: 1) Young Earth Cosmology, 2) Creation Fully Formed and 3) Decreasing Light Speed.

1) Young Earth Cosmology. The newest one developed by Dr. Russ Humphreys is the most satisfactory. He proposes using Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity and changing the assumptions from the “Big Bang” model to derive a young universe. The foundation of “Big Bang” cosmology is Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. To get the equations of the theory to work for a Big Bang a series of assumptions (parameters) have to be accepted. These are; the Universe contains no boundaries, size is infinite, it has no edge, it has no center of mass, it has a uniform distribution of matter, and there is no net gravity effect. These assumptions are in direct contradiction to the observations we make in the Universe. For example, it is VERY lumpy and does NOT have a uniform distribution of mass. When you set the parameters in Einstein’s theory to conform to Humphries model you will get an expanding Universe that looks old but is young. This Young Earth Cosmology is described in the book “Starlight and Time” by Dr. Russ Humphries. The other two are decreasing the speed of light and Creation with an appearance of age.

2) Creation Fully Formed. A second explanation is that God made the creation fully functioning, and the light from long distances was put in place at the moment of creation. Everything is complete from the very start.

3) Decreasing Light Speed. Finally, the third is that when God created light on day one, the speed of light was almost infinite but has slowed to the current speed today. If this is true then using light speed to measure distance is not feasible.

Incidentally, 90% of the mass needed for the Big Bang model is missing. Astronomers call it cold, dark matter; can’t see it, can’t find it but it MUST be there if the Big Bang is real, incredible faith, but poor science.

4) Is Time Eternal?

God existed in eternity without space/matter/time. The first verse of Genesis indicates the first thing God did was start time. “In the beginning,” time starts first, and then God creates the physical Universe. In eternity, there was nothing but God. Einstein’s Theory of Relativity indicates time had a beginning. Time is NOT ETERNAL; it has a beginning and will have an end.

Dinosaurs in the Bible’s 6,000 Year Time Frame

One of the most common questions asked at my workshops and seminars are: “Where do the dinosaurs fit in the Biblical time frame?” Many Christians are misled by the evolutionary propaganda that dinosaurs are extinct for 65 million years. The Bible teaches that dinosaurs were created on day six with all the other land animals and lived at peace in Eden. All creatures were set up to eat fruits and vegetables, and so they did too. Not until after the fall and definitely after the flood did animals begin to kill and eat each other to survive. The dinosaurs, being cold-blooded reptiles, survived very well before the flood in the lush garden paradise. They grew gigantic because reptiles continue to grow as long as the food is available. The 100-year-old alligator is awesome!

We have fossils of other enormous creatures from the pre-flood world (dragonflies with a 51-inch wingspan, 12-inch cockroaches, 6-foot tall rabbits, giant sloth’s, etc.). When God told Noah about the coming flood, he told Noah to take two of each “kind” of land-dwelling, air-breathing animal on the ark, including each “kind” of a dinosaur. But weren’t they too big? NO! Dinosaurs hatch from eggs, and the largest dinosaur eggs are about the size of a football. So even the giant T-Rex was once the size of a dog soon after it hatched. So space for young ones on the Ark would not be a size problem. Each “kind” would represent great variety. For example, a pair of dogs would serve the whole dog kind including wolves, coyotes, dingoes, etc. Not two Great Danes, two Poodles, two Daschund, two Timber Wolves, two Chihuahua, two whatever. In summary, the dinosaurs were created at the same time as Adam, lived in the garden, many were destroyed in Noah’s flood, and those that came off the Ark became extinct quickly because of the post-flood conditions.

There are several pieces of evidence that men met dinosaurs in recent times. In a Bible Science Newsletter, a publication that ceased in the 1990s, there was an article documenting human contact with dinosaurs in 13th and 14th century Europe. Many civilizations have legends of “Dragons” that sound like dinosaurs. In the American west, the native peoples have a legend of a creature called the Thunderbird that until the 1950’s anthropologists studying these Native Americans scoffed at this legend as being a myth of folk tale. However, there were reports of cowboys in the early 1800s seeing this creature. In the mid-1950’s fossils were found of a flying reptile, now named Quetzalcoatlus that probably was the legendary Thunderbird. There is an animal living in central Africa called Mokele Mbembe whose description, by the native peoples, sounds like a dinosaur. Look it up on the web in Cryptozoology. I asked an evolutionist recently: “If we found a living dinosaur, wouldn’t Evolution be falsified?” He said: “Of course not we would just have another living fossil.” Evolutionists will never admit to their theory being in trouble. Living Fossil is an oxymoron. Fossils are dead stone pictures of what was ONCE living.

Personal Note: I had triple bypass surgery on Monday, March 20. I returned home on Friday 3/24. Thanks to all who prayed. It was a rapid recovery for someone my age.

Blood & Spiritual Warfare, Satan’s Lies Bring Death

For the last several weeks, I’ve blogged a series dealing with the nature of blood, and it’s portrayal of Spiritual Truth. Blood in Scripture is the source of life: “the life of the flesh is in the blood.” Blood sacrifices were used to atone for sin and in rites of purification, and finally, the blood of Christ brings everlasting life to those that believe. The three-fold nature of blood is 1) plasma (mostly water), 2) red cells (the bearers of life, oxygen) and the 3) Immune and protection system (clotting agents and immune system components).   Today, I’ll deal again with the blood’s immune and protection systems and their illustration of truth and deception.

The deceiver who brings death, in the blood is carbon monoxide (CO), and in the spiritual war, it’s Satan and his lies! CO deceives the body into thinking it‘s oxygen, (02) and brings death instead of life.   Satan comes as a deceiver who brings lies while the person believes they are getting the truth. The Bible speaks about this deception.

1 Corinthians 11:13-14 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Our physical body is easily deceived into accepting death instead of life. Usually, red blood cells carry life-giving oxygen to the body’s cells using the heart and circulatory system. If a person breathes an atmosphere containing CO, the lungs become filled with CO instead of air containing oxygen. When the red blood cells contact carbon monoxide in the lungs, they accept it as if it were O2 and carry it in place of oxygen. When CO gets to the cell, it has no life to bring so the body starts to die from lack of oxygen. Red blood cells are deceived into believing it was bringing life when it brought death.

In the spiritual war, we must breathe in truth, the Word of God, and avoid the lies of the world, the flesh and the devil for they poison our life and bring death.

John 8:44 He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar and the father of it.

We are vulnerable because of our sinful nature and are easily deceived so we must test everything especially the spirits.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Jesus ultimately will destroy the harbinger of death, Satan, but now we must fight for truth in a world ruled by the father of lies. Breathe in TRUTH not the lies of the evil one.
