I started my career as an author at age 70 in 2012, and now late in 2017, I’ve published three books on Christian Apologetics:  Always Be Ready to Give an Answer!

In the fall of 2102, I was teaching a Christian Business Men’s group a series of lessons on personal evangelism.  Week after week I heard a familiar refrain, “I don’t share the Gospel because of all questions I can’t answer that my unbelieving friends and family ask me.”  When Jesus was asked questions, he frequently answered them with another question to expose the person’s motives and presuppositions.  He was using a strategy anyone can use to get to the Gospel without directly answering their query.  Based on 12 years of teaching experience, I developed lesson plans for each evangelism lesson.  As I shared this experience with one of my spiritual mentors, Bob said, “Why don’t you write a book explaining this concept?  So, wrote Always Be Ready to Give an Answer!  After a lot of Bible study, I saw Jesus used this approach, answering a question with a question to expose the questioner’s motives and presuppositions.  After I’d completed an outline and several chapters, I discussed this concept with a Christian brother, and he said, ”… but eventually, you need to answer their questions.”

In the middle 1980s, I built a web page http://www.sixdaycreation.com that allowed readers to ask questions that I’d answer.  After more than 20 years of Q and A, I had answers to over 100 common questions the world asks Christians.  So, was born my second book, ANSWERS For, “The Hope That Is In You.  In addition to 106 QandAs, I added analysis of the differences between Biblical Creation and Atheistic Evolution.  Both books are available at http://yourchristiananswers.com

As was editing ANSWERS, I realized although I’d been critical of Evolution, I hadn’t made a strong case against it.  So, the concept for book three was born, Without 3 Miracles Darwin’s DEAD!  I gave the three miracles each a name.

The Memory Tree is a Gospel Christmas Story that can be read to children in about 10 minutes. It’s a great read to give to your family for Christmas. The Gospel is very clearly presented.

Can a Christmas tree planted in memory of Ruth and Barry’s grandfather speak to their father, Harry? Harry’s been bitter for years about the death of his wife Charlotte on Christmas Eve years before. He asks, “How could a God that loves us let Charlotte die?” He never got an answer he could accept until he told the story about the memory tree.

“Why did one have to die for the other to live?” He asked the children, unsure himself of the answer. All the bitterness of all the years seemed to come back suddenly, and he began to feel tears well up in his eyes.

“That’s what Charlotte said, ‘He had to die to give us life,'” he almost shouted. He now understood that the tree had a message for him all along. All these years he hadn’t seen it. Jesus had to die so we could live. We couldn’t sacrifice ourselves; we weren’t worthy, but He was. Now it was all clear; Jesus had died to give him life. “O Lord how could I have been so blind!! I need you, Jesus,” he thought.

Richard Slazer was reading in John when he heard the tree fall. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone; but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit.” He got up from his chair and went out into the yard to look at the fallen tree. As he looked at the base where it had cracked and broken. He noticed a tiny branch poking it’s head up through the soil right next to the severed stump. Perhaps a new tree will grow in its place, he thought, as he hurried in to escape the coming storm.

Nations catastrophically fail based on Humanism – The French Revolution

Principles of freedom, liberty, and equality only thrive in a culture that recognizes the God of the Bible. Without God, a culture quickly descends into depravity. Humanism and Atheism as governing principles bring oppression, not freedom. Humanist Manifesto II regards other belief systems with contempt, especially Christianity. Nations degenerate very quickly without God and biblical principles as foundations!

Last week we looked at how the founding principles of the US recognize God as sovereign ruler and creator. We’ll contrast these foundations with the French Revolution founded on Humanism. The French principles appear similar: liberty, equality, and fraternity with one significant difference, the lack of any reference to God. The French Revolution articles are a purely Humanist document! The first six articles show the revolution’s Humanist principles

      French Revolution Articles 1789:

  1. Men are born and remain free and equal in rights. Social distinctions may be founded only upon the general good.
  2. The aim of all political association is the preservation of the natural and imprescriptible rights of man. These rights are liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression.
  3. The principle of all sovereignty resides essentially in the nation. No body (group) or individual may exercise any authority, which does not proceed directly from the nation.
  4. Liberty consists in the freedom to do everything, which injures no one else; hence, the exercise of the natural rights of each man has no limits except those, which assure to the other members of the society the enjoyment of the same rights. Only law can determine these limits.
  5. The Law can only prohibit such actions as are hurtful to society. Nothing may be prevented which is forbidden by law, and no one may be forced to do anything not provided for by law.
  6. The law is the expression of the general will. Every citizen has a right to participate personally, or through his representative, in its foundation. It must be the same for all whether it protects or punishes…

As the French Revolution progressed, it did not give birth to the realization of its founding principles. Without reverence for God or His rule, human depravity took control and resulted in the “Reign of Terror.” This new government, established by the above articles murdered more than 40,000 of its own citizens. The guillotine removed more than fifteen thousand heads, and another twenty-five thousand were executed across the nation. This revolution eventually was overthrown by a second revolution. Left unchecked, it would have destroyed the country entirely.

Two more examples of how foundations of the Bible or Humanism influence the history and health of a nation, both positively and negatively are:

Positively: William Wilberforce’s campaign to rid England of slavery based on Christianity.

Negatively: The rise of the Nazi regime, Hitler, and the Third Reich, based on Humanism.

Nations built on Biblical principles grow to thrive, Nations built on Humanist principles don’t long survive.

Evolution is fraud, NOT fact or theory!

No one can prove either Creation or Evolution because the evidence we have is in the present and has to be interpreted to explain the past, so neither can be proven. You can, however, look at the evidence and see how it fits into either of these frameworks. In the strict sense, neither model is scientific because science requires REPEATABLE experiments in the PRESENT.

Evolutionists, particularly in Universities are declaring louder, and louder “Evolution is a fact!” Many of the textbooks used in public schools teach, “Evolution is a fact!” From Webster’s Dictionary, a fact is: “1. A thing is known to be true, a thing known to have happened. 2. What is true, what has happened?” Since no human observer was present neither at the beginning nor during the evolutionary process, the only evidence we have is circumstantial or revelational; therefore, Creation or Evolution never be facts. Each model is accepted by FAITH based on the worldview of the observer. Science’s best knowledge is expressed in laws like gravity, which can be proven in the present and have NO known exceptions. Scientific theories are accurate statements that can be tested and demonstrated to be true and confirmed not to be false, so Evolution cannot be a theory. At best Evolution and Creation are frameworks or models of the past and should NOT be called scientific.

Each of these models has implications for how students view their self-identity. Creation states that we are created in God’s image, but are marred by rebellion against him but can be redeemed by the finished of Jesus. Evolution says 1) we came from slime and going to become dirt, 2) here is no meaning in this Universe and 3) the death, struggle, and suffering of all living things is just how it is. As an evolutionist said to me “Just learn to live with it.” I will put my trust in Christ and not accept the meaninglessness that comes with Evolution.

All scientific theories are not the same, of these: Evolution, Relativity, Atomic Theory, and Quantum Theory, only Evolution cannot be investigated in the present. It hypothesizes past events that cannot be seen. This limitation of science, requiring testing in the present, eliminates molecules to man Evolution as a valid scientific theory. Only microevolution (variation within the existing genetic material) can be shown in the present and that can’t be extrapolated to the large changes called macroevolution. Macroevolution requires new genetic material added to the genome and that NEVER happens in nature. Mutations, which are destructive, can change genetic material but NEVER add new content. Until evolutionists can show the arising of new genetic material Evolution is falsified by genetics.

Because neither Evolution nor Creation can be proven by science I turn to history. The Biblical story of Creation is true because it is documented from the very beginning in Scripture, either it’s true or not. If it’s not true, what, historical documentation can be produced to substantiate another view? None as powerful as the Bible!!! There is NO historical evidence for Evolution.

Give Your Christian Testimony at Every Opportunity!

As a Christian do you get stumped by a question from a friend or family member that shuts down your intent to share the Gospel? When asked one of “those” questions like “Where did Cain get his wife?” don’t answer immediately. Share your testimony FIRST. In my book “Always Be Ready to Give an Answer!” I teach a strategy that gets to your testimony BEFORE answering that question. Today I’ll share the SHORT version of mine. (My book also has medium and long ones.)

After you’ve taken their spiritual temperature continue: “I am sure there is an adequate answer to your question but before I answer your question, let me tell you about my journey of to becoming a Christian.”

“As I matured, I left the church of my youth and ultimately became a hard-core atheist. How could there be a God with so much suffering and death in the world? After marrying my wife, Terry, and having two children, our family came to Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1973. Since we left our families in New York and New Jersey, Sundays became a long day with two small children. My wife, Terry, met some neighbors and as an ex-Catholic decided to attend an Episcopal church, leaving me home with two young children. After several weeks, I also decided to participate in that church. Managing two young children at home was not an easy task for me. My new life in Greensboro was falling apart quickly. My marriage was faltering, I had a drinking problem, I had a to pornography addiction, and had a job working for a man I hated. The church we attended held a weekend retreat in Asheville, North Carolina, in 1977, and both Terry and I felt it would be good for me to get away for a short time. As the weekend progressed, I was confronted with the gospel. I was a lost sinner. That was very clear by the way my life was going, but what could I do about it? Nothing myself, but it became apparent that my sin debt was paid by Jesus’ death on the cross. He could give me new life! Wow! Everything changed. I came back to Greensboro a new person. Christ would begin to heal our marriage, change my behavior, and give me a new worldview. Atheism was trashed for a relationship with the living God. The changes were so dramatic my fellow workers joked about the old Charlie (the one that drank a lot of beer and religiously read Playboy and Penthouse) vs. the new Charlie that was entirely made over. My description of myself today would be “a wicked sinner saved by grace.” From a hard-core atheist, I “evolved” into a Bible-believing Christian.”

Now ask your questioner another question. Remember Jesus did this all the time. Use one of these or make up your own. You want to probe how they react to your testimony.

“Now you understand the radical change that took place in my life, how about you? What do you believe?”

“Tell me about what you believe.”

Or you can go directly to an invitation. “Now you know how Jesus changed my life. Would you like him to change yours?”

Why I believe this BIG Universe is only 6,000 Years Old?

The age of the Universe is a major area of disagreement between Biblical Creationists and those that believe it is billions of years old. “Old Earthers” include Evolutionists, Atheistic, and religious, and Old Earth Creationists. I believe in a young Earth because of what the Bible says, but I want to understand it using science. Here are three scientific explanations that Young Earth Creationists use.

1) Decreasing the speed of light. When God created light on day one, the speed of light was almost infinite but has slowed to its current speed today making all distance measurements using light speed significantly overstated.

2) Creation with the appearance of age. Creation was made fully functioning, and the light from long distances was put in place at the moment of creation, just

3) Young Earth Cosmology developed by Dr. R. Humphreys, published in “Starlight and Time.” Using Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity and changing the assumptions from the “Big Bang” model he creation of a young universe that appears old. To get the equations to work for the Big Bang a series of assumptions (parameters) have to be set in the equations. These are; the 1) Universe contains no boundaries, 2) size is infinite, 3) has no edge, 4) no center of mass, 5) uniform distribution of matter, and 6) no net gravity effect. These assumptions are in direct contradiction to scientific observations. For example, it is VERY lumpy and does NOT have a uniform distribution of mass. When you set parameters in Einstein’s theory to conform to observed science, you get a young expanding Universe that appears old.

Here are two Biblical reasons I believe in a “Young Earth”:

1) The Bible is clear that death is a direct result of Adam’s sin, yet allcause they are accommodatingGod would have used death and struggle as a POSITIVE process to make progress in all the old Earth scenarios. That’s what evolution and NOT what the Bible says about death. A God, who uses death, is NOT the God of Scripture!!!

2) At the end of each Creation day, God says his process is good. At the end of the sixth day, Scripture says: “Then God saw everything that He hath made, and behold it was very good.” EVERYTHING was VERY GOOD. This expression implies a perfect Creation with no sin, death, rebellion, etc. “Old Earth” processes have the fall of Satan, death, sin, and all other kinds of imperfection present before the end of day six implying that the clear statement of Scripture either wasn’t “everything that He had made” or it wasn’t “very good. You can’t have any sin before the end of the sixth day because it’s in direct conflict with the clear words of Scripture.

Lesson: A young Universe, about 6,000 years old, is both Biblically and Scientifically sound. Christians can believe it with confidence.

US Public Education’s Disaster, Relativism in Place of Absolutes

Children in US public schools are taught every subject based on the Atheistic/Humanistic presupposition that knowledge is relative. When absolutes are removed from education and relativism put in its place, Public Education fails. Knowledge cannot be built without starting with absolutes. Two examples: reading and math.

1) READING The phonics method to teach reading begins with the absolutes—letters and sounds—and goes to the relative—words and sentence formation. Todays, whole languageach, starts with the relative, whole words and never builds a foundation of letters. Reading skills don’t develop without the letter foundation. Absolute  relative because that’s how God designed it. As a child develops speech, he or she starts with sounds. Listening to a baby test his or her vocals is always interesting. We don’t expect them to begin with words. Word and sentence formation comes after the sound development of the letters. Education fails to make effective readers without the absolute foundation of letters and sounds, phonics.

2) MATH In Common Core mathematics problem-solving methods are taught and little time is spent on the mechanics of numbers. The absolutes in math are the numbers and their relationships: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. Starting with the relative never teaches the absolutes of number structure. If you were born before the middle of the twentieth century, you probably remember memorizing the times tables. Those tables, along with addition and subtraction, are the absolutes that build the math system all the way to calculus. Without the absolute foundation of numbers, the mind won’t ever “get it.” Math becomes a mystery instead of a problem-solving tool. As a parent, look at the math-teaching materials: number lines, indirect calculations, etc.

I could go on with more issues in science, history, etc., but that’s enough to make my point. The “official” method is always relativism. NO absolutes! Only presuppositions compatible with Atheism/Humanism are permitted in our public schools.

In the seventies, I taught four summer sessions on Biblical Creation at the North Carolina Governor’s School. This summer program, for top rising seniors in public schools across the state, allowed me to make my Creation presentation because its purpose was to “provoke critical thinking in the students.” In the fourth year, I took a poll, by a show of hands, asking: “How many believed in some form of Creation instead of Evolution.” As with the general population surveys, about half the students raised their hands. Several humanist teachers were in the room and saw half the hands go up for Creation. My contact person, a Christian, later told me they were very upset because I had so many convincing arguments.

The lesson I learned here was, in public schools, you can teach, but only according to humanist presuppositions—so much for the First Amendment in education. Substituting the absolute foundation God gave us for relativism destroys critical thinking in students and makes “political correctness” the result. Today’s students can’t read or do math effectively. They become advocates for whatever, without any reason or foundation for their beliefs. That’s the direct result of relativism without absolutes.
