The value of human life viewed by the Humanist – Evolution and the Christian – Creation.

Of the many divisive issues in the US today, I dealt with two in my book ANSWERS For “The Hope That Is In You” the value of human life and racism. History has shown again and again that when human life is depreciated murder and genocide kill millions. EXAMPLES! In 1857 the US Supreme Court in Dread Scott v Sandford declared slaves non-persons in a (7-2) decision. They ruled, “people of African descent imported into the United States and held as slaves, or their descendants—whether or not they were slaves—were not legal persons and could never be citizens of the United States.” In 1937 in Nazi Germany Jews were declared non-human in the Nuremberg laws. ARTICLE 4. Stated, “(1) A Jew cannot be a citizen of the Reich. He cannot exercise the right to vote; he cannot hold public office.” Finally, in 1973 Roe v Wade ruled that children in the womb were non-persons. The US Supreme Court found most laws against abortion violated a constitutional right to privacy under the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment This overturned all state and federal laws outlawing or restricting abortion. Slaves, Jews and now, the unborn were declared non-persons. As a result many would die in all three cases. How a society values human life determines who lives and who dies. Here I’ll contrast two views, which are VERY different, Humanist (Evolution) and Christian (Creation).

Humanist – Evolution. In Evolution, humans are the highest animals, having no particular special position above other animals. In some cases animals are even regarded as equal to or even better than people. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), an animal rights organization, rejects speciesism (the concept that one species is superior to another). PETA opposes the use of animals in any form: as food, clothing, entertainment, or research. The most famous statement of Ingrid E. Newkirk, cofounder of PETA, is, “When it comes to feelings like hunger, pain, and thirst, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy.” Men and animals are equal and humans have NO special place on Earth!

Christian – Creation In contrast, in Creation, humans are created in God’s image uniquely designed to love and worship God. He gave them dominion over everything he created. When they rebelled in the “fall”, they lost spiritual communion with God and their spirits died. They were made for purpose, but because of this rebellion, God’s condemnation brings them an eternity in hell. God, himself, provides escape from this punishment by coming to earth himself as Jesus to pay the debt brought by that condemnation. He offers reconciliation to God to those who believe and affirms new life in them. In Creation, then, human life is precious and unique, but separated from God by sin. Christians are returned to spiritual communion with God through the Holy Spirit but they remain sinners saved by grace. Mankind is unique and special!

Lesson: How we value human life in a society determines who lives and who dies. The most dangerous time to live in the US today is the time from conception to birth.

I can’t resist one more comment. Abortion is an insidious form of racism but that’s a subject for another blog.
