Why should I consider believing Bible Creation instead of Atheist Evolution?

I recently attended lectures at the Carlisle library titled: “Science & Religion: Lessons from History for the 21st Century” taught by a Shippensburg College professor who is a firmly committed Evolutionist.  He made presentations of the historical context of Evolution vs. Creation and explained how Evolution works.

Some opponents of Biblical Creation portray it opposed to science.  Creationists are not opposed to science, but believe it is not reliable to predict past events because it is interpretative nature.  All so-called scientific theories are not the same.  Of these four: 1) Evolution, 2) Einstein’s Relativity, 3) Atomic Theory, and 4) Quantum Theory, only Evolution cannot be directly investigated in the present. Evolution hypothesizes past events that cannot be observed today because we live in the present This limitation of science, requires testing and verification by repeated experiment eliminates “Molecules to Man Evolution” as a scientific theory.  It should be called philosophy or a model of the past NOT science.  Even if evolutionary scientists proved macroevolution in a laboratory, which they haven’t, it only shows what’s possible NOT what happened.  We don’t have the past; we can’t prove the past with certainty, it’s gone.  Therefore, reconstruction of history is a non-scientific exercise. However, it’s done every day in courtrooms all over the US.  We use scientific data to reconstruct the crime, but the past is NOT PROVEN only hypothesized.  When evidence is weak or contradictory, we get a jury that can’t reach a verdict of guilt or innocence.  Two groups of jurors look at the SAME evidence and came to opposite conclusions.  This problem of “same evidence, different conclusions”  is the nature of the origins debate.  Different people with different presuppositions look at the same evidence and come to opposite conclusions.  People may believe in either one, but because Atheists cannot accept God, they MUST believe in Evolution.  Some will avoid the Abiogenesis problem by starting with Panspermia; life brought here by Aliens or a meteor.

The Creation model seems very alien to most people educated in US school systems since public schools only teach Evolution. I once felt that way too. After becoming a Christian in 1977, I confronted a dilemma. All my science education taught me Evolution was a fact. As I read Genesis, it was apparent that the Lord created the world in six days a short time ago. For the first time, I studied the ‘other’ side by authors like Henry Morris, Duane Gish, John Whitcomb, Ken Ham, and Gary Parker. Previously I’d only been exposed to Creation taught as a caricature by those that didn’t believe it. In three years of study, I evolved from an Atheistic Evolutionist into a convinced “Young Earth Creationist.” I urge everyone who has been only taught Evolution to look seriously at the “other side.” If you don’t change your mind at least, you will have an understanding of Creation.  A good source to see the impossibility of Atheistic Evolution is my book: “Without 3 Miracles Darwin’s Dead!  Science Proves Atheistic Evolution is IMPOSSIBLE.”

Sugar creates many health problems, so, why did God create it?

For more than 35 years I have answered many questions commonly asked of Christians on my website, http://www.sixdaycreation.com. More than 100 answers are in my book: ANSWERS For “The Hope That Is in You. However, the issue addressed in this blog has not been tackled until now.

QUESTION: If God created food derived only from vegetation to be eaten before the flood, then why did God create sugar since it is so harmful to human health including diabetes, tooth decay, and heart disease?

On day six of the, Creation account God defines humankind’s food in Genesis 1:29-30.  And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.”

God instructs men and animals to eat food derived from vegetation, including what we classify as fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts.  Most of these foods contain some amount of sugar.  So, sugar was designed to be part of man’s diet, in small quantities as a portion of whole grain, fruit, etc.  Sugar is necessary for a living organism’s normal metabolism at a level of 5-10% of total consumption.  Therefore it is designed to be a MINOR ingredient in foods, NOT a primary one.

High levels of sugar in the diet is the primary cause of dental caries, tooth cavities, and diabetes and also contribute to heart disease. There are two main reasons why sugar has become disease-causing in modern man’s diet.  First, it is extracted, refined, and concentrated to an almost pure level.  Candy is NOT a good nutritional choice since it’s primary ingredient is refined sugar.  Second, we consume sugar many times than the more the level in natural foods.

In summary, sugar is designed by God to be a minor ingredient in natural foods, but modern man consumes it at much higher levels than needed by our bodies resulting in the many health problems.  It’s the abuse of sugar, not its use that’s the problem.  This damage results from the impact of our sinful rebellion against God.  We love to eat what tastes good, and we love sweet tastes, so we eat sugar in large quantities

Humankind’s fall into sin described in Genesis 3 ultimately causes our sugar problem.  Sin incurs the debt of disease, decay, and finally our death.  No human escapes death because every person’s sin debt MUST be paid to satisfy God’s justice.  But God, as Jesus, came to Earth as a substitute to pay men’s sin penalty.  Has your sin debt been paid or will you pay it yourself?  For more info email me at charlie@sixdaycreation.com or see my testimony in my book: “Always Be Ready to Give an Answer.”  or Charlie’s Lakeside testimony.  https://youtu.be/CCMXI_Czmcc or Charlie’s Testimony at Grace http://youtu.be/ktxK_XOpvo0

Biblical reasons for the Young Earth Creation Position!

As we begin a new year, I felt it appropriate that I start with two Biblical reasons why I take the “Young Earth Creation” (YEC) position. I do NOT take it because of science since science is an interpretation of evidence, and can change as new evidence appears. I use ONLY Biblical reasoning when someone asks about my “Young Earth” position. Science does, in fact, verify the young Earth, but that’s not the question I’ll answer here. The two Biblical reasons are:

1) The Bible is clear that death was a direct result of Adam’s sin, yet all the “old Earth” positions have death in the creation long before Adam’s sin because they accommodate the long ages REQUIRED for Evolution. Their proponents argue that the death that came by Adam was only spiritual death, however, then you have to explain how we can have a better place in the new Heaven and Earth than Adam had if animal death was present in Eden. Remember in the new creation (a restored Eden); “the lion will lie down with the lamb.”  All the animals will be herbivores. That could not happen in the “old Earth” world before Adam appeared because animals would have killed and eaten each other. God would have used death and struggle as a POSITIVE process to gain improvement in all the old Earth scenarios. Death then would be a creative process employed by God. That’s what Evolution and NOT what the Bible says about death. A God, who uses death as a creative force, is NOT the God of Scripture!!!

2) At the end of each day of creation, God says his creative process is good. At the end of the sixth day, Scripture states: “Then God saw everything that He hath made, and behold it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31 EVERYTHING was VERY GOOD. This expression implies a perfect Creation with no sin, death, rebellion, etc.  Most “old Earth” processes have the fall of Satan, death, sin, and all other kinds of imperfection present before the end of day six. That would imply that the clear statement of Scripture either wasn’t “everything that He had made” or it wasn’t “very good.” In the last chapter of Revelation, Jesus says: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” No more death! Everything is “very good.” You can’t have any form of imperfection before the end of the sixth because its presence would be in direct conflict with the clear words of Scripture “everything was very good.”

How do you get an age of 6,000 years from the Bible?

The Bible gives a chronological account of history starting at the beginning. If you count back using the genealogies and from known history, you get a creation date of 4004 BC. Bishop Ussher calculated this from the genealogies in Genesis. So, the total age of the Universe is slightly more than 6000 years.

God’s Creation reflects His Trinitarian nature. The three-fold nature of the Universe.

As a Young Earth Creationist, I have many discussions with other Christians about the age of God’s creation.  In this blog, I’m putting the age of the Creation discussion aside to highlight another characteristic of the Universe, its three-fold nature. The Christian doctrine of the Trinity, God in three persons, was defined in the Nicene Creed (325 A.D.). (The following citation is from Wikipedia) “The Ante-Nicene Fathers asserted Christ’s deity and spoke of “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,” even though their language is not that of the traditional doctrine as formalized in the fourth century. Trinitarians view these as elements of the codified doctrine. Ignatius of Antioch provides early support for the Trinity around 110 A.D., exhorting obedience to “Christ, and to the Father, and to the Spirit.”   Justin Martyr (AD 100–165) also writes, “in the name of God, the Father, and Lord of the universe, and of our Savior Jesus Christ, and of the Holy Spirit.” The first of the early church fathers to be recorded using the word “Trinity” was Theophilus of Antioch writing in the late 2nd century. He defines the Trinity as God, His Word (Logos) and His Wisdom (Sophia) in the context of a discussion of the first three days of creation. The first defense of the doctrine of the Trinity was in the early 3rd century by the church father, Tertullian. He explicitly defined the Trinity as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and defended Trinitarian theology.  St. Justin and Clement of Alexandra used the Trinity in their doxologies and St. Basil likewise, in the evening lighting of lamps.

The Trinitarian nature of God is reflected in both His Word and Creation.  For example, in his Word, 3-in-1 is shown in both Testaments: Isaiah – “Holy, Holy, Holy…”  Matthew – “in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit…”  Creation is attributed to the action of all three members of the Trinity.  In Scripture Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all described as Creator.  The whole creation is constructed in 3-in1 components.  Before you look at the table below, how many can you name?  If you come up with a new one, that I don’t have listed send it to me at charlie@sixdaycreation.com.  Happy Year to all my readers.

Who says: “Jesus Christ is born Israel’s Messiah?” The Jewish Prophets!

In Chapter 8 of Josh McDowell’s book “The New Evidence That Demands a Verdict” there are 61 prophecies fulfilled in Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection.  The odds that just eight of these prophecies would be complete all in one person are 1 in 1017.  That’s one chance in 100,000,000,000,000,000. To illustrate these odds, cover the state of Texas two feet deep in silver dollars.  Fly over and randomly throw out one marked with a red X.  Put a blindfolded man in the center of the state and allow him to go in any direction any distance toward the border.  Now, to fulfill these eight prophecies, he has to pick the marked dollar on his FIRST try, no second chances.  This illustrates the certainty that Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah of the Old Testament.

A total of 16, of 61 prophecies were fulfilled at the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.  Eight are related to His lineage and the other eight to details of his birth. The Hebrew prophecies about the Messiah’s line are:

  1. A descendant of Shem the third son of Adam & Eve. (Genesis 9:26).
  2. Through Abraham (Genesis 12:3).
  3. Through Abraham’s son, Isaac (Genesis 17:21).
  4. Through Isaac’s son, Jacob, also called Israel (Genesis 28:14).
  5. Through the tribe of Judah (one of Jacob’s 12 sons) (Genesis 49:8).
  6. Through the family of Jesse (Isaiah 11:1).
  7. Through the house of David (Jeremiah 23:5).
  8. Lineages of Matthew 1:1-17 = Joseph & Luke 3:23-38 = Mary are fulfilled in Jesus.

The promised Messiah had to come before 70 A.D. because the Roman conquest of Jerusalem destroyed all genealogical records of the Jewish people.  After 70 A.D. no Jew could trace their lineage.  Josephus, the Jewish Historian wrote about the destruction: “The governor of Syria could not quell the uprising, and the emperor Nero entrusted the campaign to the veteran commander Vespasian. With superior forces Vespasian slowly and effectively subdued Galilee and Judaea. When he was recalled to Rome to become emperor, he gave his army to his son Titus. In 70 A.D. Titus captured and completely destroyed Jerusalem with great slaughter. In 73 A.D. the last flames of revolt were put out at Masada, where the last rebels committed suicide rather than fall into Roman hands.” (Encyclopedia Britannica)

Another reason the Messiah had to come before 70 A.D. is the prophecy of Daniel called the 70 Weeks of Years (Daniel 9:24-27) that states the Messiah will appear and be killed before the Temple is destroyed in 70 A.D.  Eight more prophecies related to Jesus’ Nativity include:

  1. Place of birth – Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)
  2. Virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14)
  3. Divine names (Isaiah 9:6)
  4. Gifts to Him (Psalm 72:10-11)
  5. Children massacred after birth (Jer 31:15)
  6. Escape into Egypt (Hosea 11:1)
  7. Residence in Nazareth (Matthew 2:23)
  8. Childhood poverty (Isaiah 53:2)

These prophecies prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the Messiah promised in the Old Testament to be sent to Israel was Jesus Christ.

Share the Gospel this Christmas by reading my short story “The Memory Tree” to your family. It’s on Kindle.

“The Memory Tree” is a short Christmas story written by Charlie Liebert.  Reading it to your family is an easy and effective way to share the gospel at Christmas dinner or when you tell stories around the tree. It can be read in about 15 minutes. Some readers have used the story as a script to tell the story as a skit or play.

Can a Christmas tree planted, more than 50 years ago, in memory of Ruth and Barry’s grandfather speak to their father, Harry?  Harry’s been bitter for years about the death of his wife Charlotte on Christmas Eve.  Harry’s memory went back to that afternoon 28 years before. Charlotte shouting; “Harry!” as the truck suddenly appeared out of the rain.  The sound of the crash was deafening.  Harry awoke, aware of being wet and some hands on his shoulder.  The awful pain in his back made everything seem fuzzy.  He heard someone say, “This one’s still alive, but the woman’s dead.”

His grandson Barry poked him, and he came back to the present.  Before he continued telling the story, he asked, in his mind: “How could a God that loves us let Charlotte die?”  He’d never gotten an answer he could accept.

He continued: “Why did one tree have to die for the other to live?” He asked the children, unsure himself of the answer.  All the bitterness of the years came back suddenly, and he felt tears well up in his eyes.

“That’s what Charlotte said, ‘He had to die to give us life,'” he almost shouted.  He understood that the tree had a message for him all along.  All these years he hadn’t seen it.  Jesus had to die so we could live.  We couldn’t sacrifice ourselves, we weren’t worthy, but He was worthy to pay our debt.  Now it was clear, Jesus had died to give Harry life.  “O Lord how could I have been so blind!!  I need you, Jesus,” he thought.

Author’s Note: Pause, if necessary to clarify the Gospel.[

Ten years later Harry lay on the bed overlooking the backyard.  The tree was now old like him and ready to die.  The last ten years had been kind to him, and he had many chances to share Jesus.  But now the end was almost here.  It looked like another winter storm.  In the darkening sky, the wind blew strong.  Just as Harry breathed out his last breath, the wind picked up and the memory tree cracked at the base and fell into the Slazer’s yard.

Richard Slazer was reading in John when he heard the tree fall.  “Verily, verily, I say unto you, except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone; but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit.”  Richard got up from his chair and went out into the yard to look at the fallen tree.  As he looked at the base where it had cracked and broken, he noticed a tiny branch poking its head up through the soil next to the broken stump. Perhaps a new tree will grow in its place, he thought, as he hurried in to escape the coming storm.

Charlie’s Born Again in 1977

This week’s blog shares my short testimony of coming to Jesus in 1977.  More extended versions are in my book “Always Be Ready to Give an Answer!  A Former Atheist’s Personal Christian Evangelism Plan.”

I grew up in the small town of Amityville on Long Island. My parents took my two sisters and me to a large, mainline, liberal church almost every Sunday. At sixteen years old, I became acutely aware of the hypocrisy of the church members. So, I mentally shut off anything the church had to say.  By the time I was twenty-four and approaching completion of my BS in chemistry, I had become a staunch Atheist.  Living in New Jersey and met my future wife, Terry, through one of my roommates, her cousin. We married, had our first child, and moved to Rockland County, NY.  Although marriage had brought some changes, I was falling more and more into sinful practices. We had our second child, and my company moved us to Greensboro, NC. By this time, I was viewing pornography and well on the way to becoming an alcoholic. Terry and I talked seriously about divorce. My life was coming apart, and there seemed to be nothing I could do about it.  We had lost all Sunday family gatherings when we moved to NC so, Sunday became a barren time. In Greensboro, most of our neighbors and fellow workers went to church, so we began to attend an Episcopal church. It was the right place for Terry, the ex-Catholic, and Charlie, the ex-Methodist. Nothing came from the pulpit that challenged either one of us, but there were three families in that church whose lives were very different. I couldn’t explain how, but I knew they were different. We did a Bible study with them called “Edge of Adventure,” and our marriage relationship improved for a short time. The study was over, and we went back to the way it was: bad! Later that year one of the men from that group suggested I attend a men’s weekend retreat in Asheville. Terry encouraged me to go. After all, it was a chance to get away from all my problems.

At the beginning of the weekend, on Thursday, we gave up our watches so we would not be concerned about time. On Friday morning, after breakfast, the first speaker asked three questions. “What is your purpose in life? Where are you going? What does it all mean?” As I sat there, I realized I had no real answers. Yes, I had a wife, two children, a house, and two cars, but I knew that was not the answer. These questions bothered me all weekend. After many talks I hardly remember, I went into the chapel alone on Saturday night because I was so troubled by these issues. I knelt and began to think and remember.

I remembered sitting in the apartment in New Jersey, before I met Terry, with my other roommates, drinking beer and watching Billy Graham on TV. We made great fun of his telling; we were lost sinners and needed Jesus. I remembered a high school friend, Frank, that had witnessed to me when I was working on my MBA.  But now those things suddenly seemed real. I said in my mind, God, if you’re real (and I wasn’t sure if he was), you can have my life because it is an awful mess. (God, true to his word, took it.)

In the next moments, there was someone in the room with me that I could not see, but I felt his presence. Something strange had happened, and I did not know yet what it was.  When I came back home to Greensboro, I came down into the den where Terry was watching TV. Her first reaction was “What happened to you. Did you see God?” There was a change in my countenance that I couldn’t explain. I wasn’t sure, but I too knew something had happened. Going back to my daily routine, I immediately developed an adamant desire to read the Bible. I asked the friend who had invited me to the retreat where I should start. He said the Gospel of John. When I got to John, Chapter 3, where Nicodemus encounters Jesus, I read about being born again. That’s what happened to me! I called my friend, and he confirmed it. Yes, I was born again.
